[On the verse] 'aṣṭāviṃśordhvagā rekhā…': Twenty-eight lines running vertically and running transversely are to be drawn. Thus comes about the fractional-division diagrammatic wheel declared in the Ādiyāmala. [On] 'kṛttikādīni…': In this diagrammatic wheel, beginning with the north-eastern corner line, one should write in order the lunar mansions numbering twenty-eight, beginning with Kṛttikā and including Abhijit, with the quarter-phonemes 'a, i, u, e' and so forth. [On] 'yo grahaḥ…': Whichever planet, malefic or benefic, is situated in whichever fraction of a lunar mansion—in that fourfold division of the lunar mansion—the wise, the learned person should place that planet right there in that fraction of the lunar mansion. It pierces the phoneme facing it, which is upon that line. [On] 'ādyāṃśena…': By the first fraction, the planet situated in [that] planet's place pierces the fourth fraction of the facing lunar mansion. In this way, by the fourth fraction [it pierces] the initial, the first [fraction]; by the second, the third; by the third, the second. [On] 'yasya nāmākṣaram…': In the fractional-division diagrammatic wheel, whose name-phoneme is pierced by a planet, benefic or malefic—there, in a piercing by a malefic, misfortune occurs; in a piercing by benefics, loss; in a piercing by two or more malefics, death occurs: of this there is no doubt.
6.5.6
krūrobhayāsthite vedhe mṛtyurvirghra śubhāśubhaiḥ ||
śubhobhayagate veghe vyādhiḥ pīḍā ca bandhanam ||
When a piercing occurs flanked on both sides by malefics, death [ensues]; by benefics and malefics, an obstacle; / when a piercing falls flanked on both sides by benefics, sickness, affliction, and imprisonment.
6.5.7
vaighavyaṃ ca vivāhe ca yātrāyāṃ na nivartate ||
roge mṛtyū raṇe bhaṅgaḥ krūravedhe na saṃśayaḥ ||
Widowhood in marriage, and in a military march one does not return; / in illness, death; in battle, defeat: in a malefic piercing, there is no doubt.
6.5.8
adrayaḥ sāgarā nadyo devagrāmapurāṇi ca ||
krūravedhe vinaśyanti nātra kāryā vicāraṇā ||
Mountains, oceans, rivers, temples, villages, and cities / perish under a malefic piercing; no deliberation is needed here.
6.5.9
candraṛkṣāṃśake vedho bhavedyadyaparagrahaiḥ ||
tanmānaṃ taddine varjyaṃ sarvadā śubhakarmaṇi ||
If a piercing occurs in the fractional division of the Moon's lunar mansion by other planets, / that measure on that day must always be avoided in auspicious work.
6.5.9.p1
iti narapatijayacaryāyāṃ svarodaye aṃśasvarakram ||
Thus the sequence of fractional sounds in the svarodaya of the Narapatijayacaryā.

[On] 'krūrobhaya-…': In a piercing flanked on both sides by malefics—when there is a malefic piercing on both sides—death occurs; when there is a piercing on both sides by benefics [and malefics], an obstacle occurs; when there is a piercing on both sides by benefics, sickness, affliction, and imprisonment occur. [On] 'vaidhavyam…': clear. [On] 'adrayaḥ…': easy to understand. [On] 'candraṛkṣāṃśake…': At the time of the undertaking, the Moon pierces the very fractional division of the quarter occupied by the lunar mansion; if in that fractional division there is a piercing by another planet such as Mars, then on that day that lunar mansion should always in an auspicious work
