Chapter 3: The Qualities of the Lunar Days
3.2
nandā bhadrā vijayāś cātha riktāḥ pūrṇāś caitāḥ phalam evaṃ vidadhyuḥ.
Nandā, Bhadrā, Vijayā, and then Riktā and Pūrṇā—these produce effects in this manner:
3.3
neṣṭā madhyā pravarāś ceti śukle kṛṇṇe cintyās tithayas tāḥ pratīpāḥ..
in the bright fortnight, these lunar days are considered undesirable, middling, and excellent; in the dark fortnight, they are the reverse.
3.4
sarvāḥ śastās tithayaḥ śuklapakṣe hitvā tryṃśaṃ bahule'ntyaṃ ca kaiścit.
According to some, all lunar days are commended in the bright fortnight, and in the dark [fortnight] excluding the final third part.
3.5
ṣaṣṭhyaṣṭamyor vasulabdhāpi yātā dvādaśyāṃ vā nāśam āśu prayāti..
A woman who departs on the sixth, eighth, or twelfth [lunar day], even if she has obtained wealth, swiftly goes to destruction.
3.6
pratipadi phalam eke pañcadaśyāṃ ca neṣṭaṃ jagur idam iti tajjñair yāpyam evāvadhāryam.
Some declared that on the first [lunar day] and on the fifteenth the result is undesirable; this should be understood by the wise to be only tolerably acceptable.
3.7
kim api kim api nūnaṃ taiḥ samīkṣyoktam etat samavacanavighāte yuktatā kena cintyā..E3
Indeed, something or other was stated by them having examined it; when there is a contradiction between equal statements, by what means is correctness to be judged?
