The Tib. omits “during a lifespan of one hundred years” (varṣaśataṃ khalu jīvaṃ) and reads instead “Monks, with respect to the stages of life…” (dge slong dag ’tsho ba’i gnas skabs ni). The term avasthā (or daśā; Tib. ’tsho ba’i gnas skabs) is a technical term in Abhidharma literature denoting the different particular constellations (?) or states of the five skandhas within the chain of the twelve links of the formula of dependent arising (Skt. pratītya­samutpāda). Cf.
