160.4

爾時,世尊告諸比丘:「何所有故,何所起?何所繫著,何所見我?令諸眾生作如是見、如是說?」

At that time, the Bhagavat said to the bhikṣus: "Through the existence of what, on the arising of what, clinging to what, viewing what as self, do sentient beings hold such a view and speak such words?"

It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “What is it that exists, that arises, that ties, that’s an attachment, and that’s viewed as self and causes sentient beings to create such views and such statements? ‘Knowing and seeing in sentient beings has no cause and no condition.’”

160.5

時,諸比丘白佛:「世尊是法根、法眼、法依……」如是廣說,次第如上三經。

At that time, the bhikṣus said to the Buddha: "The Bhagavat is the root of phenomena, the eye of phenomena, the refuge of phenomena..." Thus it is expounded in full, in sequence as in the previous three sūtras.

The monks then said to the Buddha, “The Bhagavān is the Dharma root, the Dharma eye, and the Dharma refuge …” It’s thus explained in detail and in the sequence of the three sutras (35.7-9) above.
