208.2
Thus have I heard:
208.3
At one time, the Buddha was staying in Vaiśālī at the mango grove of Jīvaka Kumārabhṛtya the physician.
208.4
At that time, the Bhagavat said to the bhikṣus: "The past and future eye are anitya, how much more so the present eye! A learned āryaśrāvaka who contemplates thus does not yearn for the past eye, does not delight in the future eye, and feels nirvid, takes no delight, attains virāga, and turns toward nirvid regarding the present eye. The ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are also like this."
208.5
When the Buddha had spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced and practiced accordingly.
208.6
As with anitya, so it is also spoken for duḥkha, śūnya, and anātman.
208.7
As with the four sūtras on the internal sense-bases (āyatana), so it is also spoken for the four sūtras on the external sense-bases—rūpa, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas—and the four sūtras on both internal and external sense-bases.
