29.2
Thus have I heard:
29.3
At one time, the Buddha was staying at Śrāvastī in the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍadārāma.
29.4
At that time, a certain bhikṣu named Samṛddhi came to where the Buddha was, bowed his head to [the Buddha's] feet, withdrew to stand to one side, and said to the Buddha: "As the Bhagavat speaks of a 'teacher of Dharma'—in what way is one called a teacher of Dharma?"
29.5
The Buddha told the bhikṣu: "Do you now wish to know the meaning of a 'teacher of Dharma'?"
29.6
The bhikṣu said to the Buddha: "Indeed, Bhagavat!"
29.7
The Buddha told the bhikṣu: "Listen carefully and consider it well; I shall explain it for you. If a bhikṣu teaches nirvid, virāga, and nirodha regarding rūpa, he is called a teacher of Dharma. In this manner, regarding vedanā, saṃjñā, and saṃskāra, and regarding vijñāna, if he teaches nirvid, virāga, and nirodha regarding vijñāna, he is called a teacher of Dharma."
29.8
Then that bhikṣu, hearing what the Buddha said, leapt with joy, paid homage, and departed.
29.9
Much-heard, good at teaching Dharma, / Practicing in accordance with Dharma and reaching nirvāṇa; / Samṛddhi inquired: / 'How is one a teacher of Dharma?'
