At one time, the Buddha was staying in Śrāvastī at the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍadārāma.

At that time, the Bhagavat told the bhikṣus, "There are six internal sense spheres. Namely, the eye internal sense sphere, and the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind internal sense spheres."

When the Buddha had spoken this discourse, the bhikṣus, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and respectfully practiced it.
