At one time the Buddha was staying at Śrāvastī in the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍadārāma.

At that time the Bhagavat said to the bhikṣus: “You should cultivate immeasurable samādhi, focusing your mind with single-minded diligence. When you have cultivated immeasurable samādhi and focused your mind with single-minded diligence, [things] manifest yathābhūtaprajñāna like this. How do they manifest yathābhūtaprajñāna? Namely, aging and death manifest yathābhūtaprajñāna, and so on up to saṃskāra manifesting yathābhūtaprajñāna; that these dharmas are anitya, conditioned, and with āsravas manifests yathābhūtaprajñāna like this.”

When the Buddha had spoken this sūtra, the bhikṣus, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and put it into practice.
