5.2
Thus have I heard:
5.3
At one time, the Buddha was staying in Śrāvastī at the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍadārāma.
5.4
At that time, the Bhagavat said to the bhikṣus: "One who is attached to and delights in rūpa is attached to and delights in duḥkha; one who is attached to and delights in duḥkha does not attain vimukti from duḥkha, does not comprehend, and does not become free from desire. Likewise, one who is attached to and delights in vedanā, saṃjñā, saṃskāra, and vijñāna is attached to and delights in duḥkha; one who is attached to and delights in duḥkha does not attain vimukti from duḥkha.
5.5
"Bhikṣus, one who is not attached to and does not delight in rūpa does not delight in duḥkha; one who does not delight in duḥkha attains vimukti from duḥkha. Likewise, one who is not attached to and does not delight in vedanā, saṃjñā, saṃskāra, and vijñāna does not delight in duḥkha; one who does not delight in duḥkha attains vimukti from duḥkha.
5.6
"Bhikṣus, if one does not know, does not comprehend, does not become free from kāmarāga toward rūpa, and the mind is not liberated—if the mind of craving is not liberated—one cannot put an end to duḥkha. Likewise, if one does not know, does not comprehend, does not become free from kāmarāga toward vedanā, saṃjñā, saṃskāra, and vijñāna, and the mind is not liberated, one cannot put an end to duḥkha.
5.7
"If one knows, comprehends, becomes free from kāmarāga toward rūpa, and the mind attains vimukti, one can put an end to duḥkha. Likewise, if one knows, comprehends, becomes free from kāmarāga toward vedanā, saṃjñā, saṃskāra, and vijñāna, and the mind attains vimukti, one can put an end to duḥkha."
5.8
Then the bhikṣus, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and put it into practice.
