9.2
Thus have I heard:
9.3
At one time, the Buddha was staying in Śrāvastī at the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍadārāma.
9.4
At that time, the Bhagavat said to the bhikṣus: "Rūpa is anitya; what is anitya is duḥkha; what is duḥkha is anātman; what is anātman is also not ātmīya. To contemplate in this way is called true samyakprekṣā. Likewise, vedanā, saṃjñā, saṃskāra, and vijñāna are anitya; what is anitya is duḥkha; what is duḥkha is anātman; what is anātman is also not ātmīya. To contemplate in this way is called true contemplation.
9.5
"Āryaśrāvaka! One who contemplates thus feels nirvid toward rūpa, and feels nirvid toward vedanā, saṃjñā, saṃskāra, and vijñāna. Due to nirvid, one takes no delight; taking no delight, one attains vimukti. For one who is liberated, true knowledge arises: 'My births have been exhausted; the brahmacarya has been established; what was to be done has been done; I know for myself that there will be nāparaṃ bhavam.'"
9.6
Then the bhikṣus, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and put it into practice.
