> Three dharmas associate with three: the three are giving, merit, and reflection. These three practices are worldly dharmas for rebirth in heaven, and the practices of the three gates of liberation are dharmas leading to nirvāṇa. All three dharmas—the three practices, the three merits, the three parts of the dharmakāya—follow one another in threes, like a string of pearls. Four dharmas associate with four; five is also like this. Five dharmas are followed by six, six is followed by seven, the meanings of eight dharmas are broad, nine is followed by ten. Dharmas go from ten to eleven; in this way all numbers follow their kinds in the manner of two and three.
