> The reason why Revata of Doubts was praised for constantly dwelling under trees is that, on the stage of an ordinary person, seeking dhyāna-concentration, he dwelt under trees relying on thoughtful deliberation to eliminate the fetters. Other bhikṣus also sat in dhyāna under trees; why were they not praised? Because they could not, upon hearing \[the teaching\] once, independently focus their contemplation. This bhikṣu, upon hearing the Buddha's teaching once, was able to practice it, focusing his mind without letting go, and within six years exhausted his fetters. The earlier Revata delighted in wandering in dhyāna-concentration; their conduct and stillness did not differ, but the practices they delighted in were distinct, and therefore each was praised as foremost.
