Within this gate there are two gates. What are the two? First, the gate of the characteristics of pure, true phenomena; second, the gate of the characteristics of defiled, deluded phenomena. That which is termed 'true' is the naturally pure storehouse wisdom of original awakening. That which is termed 'deluded' is the original avidyā divorced from the essence and its characteristics. Within the gate of defiled, deluded \[phenomena\], there are three kinds. What are the three? First, avidyā; second, karmic consciousness; third, objective realms. These four phenomena—one true and three deluded—are the primary list of names that can perform the function of perfuming. In the present text, by raising the first, the subsequent ones are included, and the middle ones are also encompassed; one should examine this carefully. Why is this? Because all defiled phenomena are matters of perfuming, as in the root \[text\]: 'What are the four?
