> The commentary says: For the clarification of what meaning is this text presented here? It is in order to remedy various divergent attachments regarding breadth and narrowness, greatness and smallness. What are the divergent attachments? Namely, there are sentient beings who form such an attachment: 'The mind of the one dharmadhātu is its fundamental dharma, both broad and great; the two aspects of tathatā and delusion are its derivative dharmas, both narrow and small.' It is in order to remedy this clinging that it is spoken in this way. The aspect \[that enters\] is also that which is entered, being equal in measure to the fundamental. Furthermore, it is in order to reveal that within the aspect of tathatā there are no differentiated characteristics of conditioned dharmas. Furthermore, it is in order to reveal that the wisdom that empties the five aggregates, just like the aggregates that are emptied, is inherently empty and non-existent; through this, both that which can empty and that which is emptied are empty, in order to enter the equal aspect of tathatā. Furthermore, it is in order to reveal that the aspect of arising and ceasing is provisional and the aspect of tathatā is real. As the basic text states: 'Furthermore, to reveal the immediate entry from the aspect of arising and ceasing into the aspect of tathatā, namely, by investigating the five aggregates, matter and mind, and the objects of the six sense-fields, there is ultimately no thought; because mind lacks physical characteristics, seeking it throughout the ten directions is ultimately impossible.' For what reason? In the metaphorical aspect, the east exemplifies awakening and the west exemplifies thought; this is to reveal that the prajñā of original awakening brings forth the light of pure wisdom, illuminating the dark night of the gloom of birth and death. Just as when the solar disc has fully appeared, it emits pure light to dispel the darkness of the world. The avidyāvāsabhūmi brings forth various retinues of defiled dharmas, obscuring the pure brightness of wisdom of the nature that is boundless and uncontaminated. Just as when the solar disc has sunk and disappeared, a great dark night arises, obstructing and covering the pure brightness of discerning comprehension. As the basic text states: 'Just as when a person is lost and therefore takes east to be west, the direction does not actually turn. Sentient beings are also like this: being lost in avidyā, they take the mind to be thought, yet the mind does not actually move.' From here on down, the characteristics of obtaining the benefit are clarified: namely, there are sentient beings who comprehend that mental dharmas have no distinct characteristics of that which can arise and that which is arisen; they immediately attain the fulfillment of accord with tathatā, immediately attaining the fulfillment of entering tathatā, because there is neither accord nor entry. As the basic text states: 'If one can contemplate and know that the mind has no arising, one will then be able to accord with and enter the aspect of tathatā.'
