> The Commentary says: This is the second, the virtue of illuminating contemplation and transforming beings. The five eyes are the fleshy, heavenly, wisdom, Dharma, and Buddha eyes. Illuminating and guiding are the meaning of 'eye'. The six supernormal knowledges are: 1. supernormal knowledge of psychic powers, 2. supernormal knowledge of the divine ear, 3. supernormal knowledge of the minds of others, 4. supernormal knowledge of recollecting past lives, 5. supernormal knowledge of death and rebirth, 6. supernormal knowledge of the exhaustion of effluents. Exercising mastery is called 'spirit' \[or psychic ability\], and affairs being unobstructed is called 'supernormal knowledge'. The intrinsic nature of these two is as expounded in detail in the sūtras, and explained in passages such as the fifty-fourth and sixty-ninth fascicles of the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra and the fourteenth fascicle of the Abhidharmasamuccaya-vyākhyā.
