Herein there are two: first, briefly praising them specifically; next, summarizing in concluding praise. This is the first. Herein there are ten virtues: first, attaining knowledge of past lives for many kalpas; second, constantly being energetic and cultivating good in one's rebirths; third, māras and the like not detaining one; fourth, the devas constantly guarding and protecting one; fifth, never dying an untimely death; sixth, having no unjust decline or distress—'decline' means calamity arising to ruin the family and destroy the body, 'distress' means contracting illness, and there will never be such things; seventh, being constantly protected in thought by buddhas and bodhisattvas; eighth, causing evil to be eliminated and good to arise; ninth, being reborn in Buddha lands according to one's vows; tenth, from today onwards until awakening, not falling into the three unfortunate destinies.
