> Regarding "well protects and is mindful of", Vasubandhu says: "assisting their person and their companions"; first, assisting their person; second, assisting their fellow practitioners of the brahma-conduct. That is, when there are bodhisattvas who have already aroused the resolve \[for awakening\], have encountered Buddhas, and whose faculties and roots are already mature, the Tathāgata protects and is mindful of them, assisting their persons in every way so as to make them attain self-benefit and cause wholesome dharmas to increase. Second, assisting fellow practitioners means that if that bodhisattva has companions who share in the brahma-conduct, \[the Tathāgata\] causes him to instruct them in turn, assisting his benefiting of others.
