> Asaṅga says: This is the second \[point\]: Dīpaṅkara's words do not match bodhi, and cannot be grasped according to literal expression. Within this there are two: first, the reverse explanation, and next, the direct confirmation. This is the first. His intention is that Śākyamuni Tathāgata did not attain bodhi according to literal expression from Dīpaṅkara's speech, meaning that wisdom realizes the real without attainment. If bodhi could be spoken of by Dīpaṅkara and Śākyamuni had grasped it according to literal expression, then there would have been conceptual grasping and the mind would not yet have accorded with the real; how then could Dīpaṅkara have conferred a prediction upon me? Because he attained it without grasping according to literal expression, he conferred the prediction upon me.
