He also says: 'As for being fine because it is the cause of wisdom, the cause of wisdom is precisely wisdom.' According to the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa, at the causal stage it is called prajñā, and at the fruitional stage it is called knowledge; then listening, reflection, and cultivation are all called fine: the fine and wondrous wisdom is the cause of the Buddha's knowledge. Prajñā can cut, so it resides at the causal stage; the Buddha's fruit has nothing to cut, and in turn takes the name of knowledge.
