> "Maturation": this means that through teaching and transforming, one causes sentient beings to generate roots and mature their faculties so that they have awakening and realization. From "Abandoning the renunciation..." down: the hindrance to be abandoned. If one abandons sentient beings, one cannot teach and transform them; therefore, causing one to abandon this hindrance accomplishes the abiding. From "If one sees large and small..." down: explains the reason through the converse. The meaning is that being able to deliver beings is entirely because one does not see large or small. Therefore the sūtra says: "The Buddha spoke of non-body; this is named a great body." How could large and small remain? If one sees large and small, there are high and low, close and distant, hatred and love. Since the mind is not equal, how could it be called great compassion? Even if one transforms beings, it only creates affection and views: those who are hated are cast away, and one then abandons sentient beings; how could there be maturation? If one uses the mind in the opposite manner, no being is left behind, and whether slow or swift, all can be matured.
