> The eleventh: the sūtra runs from "Subhūti, what do you think? Can the Tathāgata be seen by means of the thirty-two marks?" down to "...are named the thirty-two marks." From "Abandoning merit..." down: the hindrance to be abandoned. Desiring to enter the noble path requires the provisions of merit; like a person traveling far, how could one go empty-handed? The Buddha is the utmost noble and the cause of merit; in making offerings and waiting upon him, there is none who does not obtain merit, and one uses precisely this merit as provisions. If making offerings attains merit, it is an abiding and not a hindrance; the reverse is a hindrance and not an abiding.
