> "So it is, so it is" is an expression of assent. The Mahāyāna Dharma is fundamentally difficult to believe and difficult to understand; if those who are not vessels of the Mahāyāna suddenly hear this Dharma, they cannot avoid astonishment, doubt and terror, and fear; one who can hear this Dharma without fear or dread is truly rare. This rare Dharma is without equal, and therefore is called the foremost. Yet the Dharma is fundamentally without spoken discourse; being concerned that they would grasp at the Dharma, he therefore said: "is not the foremost pāramitā"; because there are causes and conditions, it can also be spoken, and therefore he said: "this is called the foremost pāramitā."
