> The Buddha practiced patience over accumulated lifetimes and attained bodhi because of selflessness; therefore, in giving rise to the mind of bodhi, one must leave behind all marks. Leaving behind marks means not abiding in the six dusts of form and so on. One should give rise to a mind that does not abide anywhere; when the mind has nowhere to abide, it can abide in bodhi. If the mind has an abiding, it does not abide in the Buddha path. All the six perfections practiced by a bodhisattva should leave behind marks; form is the head of the six dusts, and giving is the beginning of the six perfections, so it says: "should not give rise to giving while abiding in form." Practicing giving in this manner is to benefit the multitudes of beings; if one retains the mind of giving and receiving, then it is not non-abiding. Below, it again dispels attachment; hence it says: "non-marks" and "not sentient beings."
