As for "nayuta": ten hundred-thousands make a lakṣa; ten lakṣas make a koṭi; ten koṭis make a nayuta. The Tathāgata in the past before the Buddha Dīpaṃkara made offerings to innumerable Buddhas; that merit can indeed be called profound and great. Yet he says that it does not equal the merit of upholding the sūtra in the latter age, because upholding the sūtra can generate rational understanding and attain realization of bodhi.
