- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.40](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1705.2.40)

> From “There were also sixteen” down, fourth is the listing of the human assembly. The text has four parts: first, the number; second, the assembly; third, their virtues; fourth, the conclusion. Now, the first. The words “sixteen kings of states” bring up the number of states to designate the persons. From “each had” down, second, is clarifying the assembly. From “five precepts” down, third, is praising their virtues. Their virtues are three: first, precepts; second, goodness; third, taking refuge. “Endowed with pure faithful conduct,” fourth, is the conclusion. Because the four faiths are accomplished, it says “pure faithful.”
