### [5.9](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1705.5.9)

> From "realm of phenomena" below, second is discerning the inconceivable by contrasting object and wisdom. There are two parts: first discerning the emptiness of the object, and then explaining the emptiness of wisdom. In the first there are two parts: first the Dharma, and then the simile. In the Dharma, stating that the realm of phenomena is empty clarifies general emptiness, meaning there is not a single phenomenon that is not empty. From "empty and signless" below, second is clarifying specific emptiness. There are three parts: first clarifying the emptiness of phenomena. "Empty" refers to the samādhi of emptiness. "Signless" refers to the samādhi of signlessness. "Not turning" means that the defiled phenomena of suffering and origination cannot be transformed into undefiled pure phenomena. Furthermore, in the approach of dharmatā, there is neither sign nor non-sign, hence it says "empty and signless." Signs cannot be moved, hence it says "not turning." Because it is free from delusion, there is no inversion; because it is free from understanding, it is called "not conforming." Knowing that all phenomena are empty of emptiness, they are called "illusory and transformed." "There are no Three Jewels" doubly reveals the twofold emptiness of persons and phenomena. "There are no noble persons or six destinies" clarifies the emptiness of persons. "Like empty space" presents a simile to illustrate it.
