> From "If a bodhisattva..." down is the third part of the reply to the question, setting forth the method of cultivation. It has two parts: First, setting forth the method of cultivation: the text says, "without reception and without written words, and cultivating apart from written words and not non-written words, cultivates written words by means of non-cultivation." Because one knows that the nature of written words is detached, the mind has nowhere to rely, the words and the principle both vanish, and cultivation and non-cultivation are both quiescent; hence it says "cultivating written words not through non-written words." Second, from "cultivates written words..." down clarifies personally realizing the above method of cultivation. Personally realizing the cultivation of prajñā, one is therefore said to attain the nature-prajñā. Through non-attainment one attains, for in truth there is nothing to be attained. From "Great King! If a bodhisattva protects the buddha\[-fruit\]..." down is the fourth part of the reply to the question, concluding the above protection of the conversion of sentient beings and protection of the practices of the ten stages: that which protects and that which is protected are also identical to the method of cultivation. "Protecting the buddhas" is protecting the fruit. "Protecting the practices of the ten stages" is protecting the cause. "Protecting the conversion of sentient beings" is the practice of benefiting others.
