### [2.57](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1707.2.57)

> From "Far-Reaching" down, the fifth section consists of ten verse lines praising the patience of the unborn from the seventh ground upward. It is divided into three sections: the first five lines praise the lower grade of the patience of the unborn on the seventh ground; the next three lines praise the middle grade of the patience of the unborn on the eighth ground; the next two lines praise the upper grade of the patience of the unborn on the ninth ground. Within the first five lines there are ten phrases. First, "Far-Reaching" is the name of the seventh ground, the Ground of Far-Reaching (Dūraṅgamā); in the \*Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā\* it is called "deeply entering the unborn," which is the practice within the ground. "King of the first dhyāna" is the king within the ground, borrowing characteristics to explain the meaning as the king of the first dhyāna. In the next phrase, "ten thousand billion" clarifies the measure of the lands converted, hence saying "ten thousand billion lands." Regarding "one lifetime remaining," before the grounds there is fragmentary \[samsaric\] birth, whereas from the first ground upward there is only transformational birth. Now, saying that on the seventh ground one lifetime remains borrows characteristics to explain the meaning, hence saying that in the recompense body one lifetime remains. Another explanation: the seventh ground involves effortful birth, which is transformational birth, hence it says "one lifetime remaining"; from the eighth ground upward there is no effortful birth, only effortless transformational birth. Dual contemplation is termed "equal." The water of effortlessness is termed the "stream of Dharma." "Newly entering" means turning away from the characteristics of effortful birth; hence it says "newly entering." Ceasing characteristics is firm; hence it is called "vajra-like patience free of conditions." Being free from the habits of the three realms, it says "not receiving"; also, not receiving future fragmentary recompense, it says "never again receiving a recompense form in the realms." From the eighth ground upward, taking another body in the second dhyāna is transformational. Attaining the supreme meaning of the Middle Way, it says "without dual illumination." From the first ground up through the seventh ground, there are three births for each ground, hence "twenty-one lifetimes." Penetrating phenomena as having nothing existent, it says "empty and quiescent practice." "Habitual attachments of the three realms" are the habitual propensities of ignorance in the three realms. "Alone clearly understands the truth" means that the bodhisattva of the seventh ground understands the signlessness of effort, hence saying "alone clearly understands the truth."
