> "Good sons! From the patience of practice up to the crowning samādhi, all are named subduing all defilements; extinguishing all defilements through the sign of signlessness, one generates the knowledge of liberation and illuminates the supreme truth, but this is not called 'seeing.' That which is called 'seeing' is sarvajñā. Therefore, from long ago I have constantly stated that it is solely known, seen, and awakened to by the Buddha, while from the crowning samādhi downward to the patience of practice, it is not known, not seen, and not awakened to. The Buddha alone has sudden awakening, and is not termed one who gradually subdues through faith. Although wisdom arises and ceases, because one can be without arising and without ceasing, if this mind ceases, then there are no burdens that are not extinguished. Being without arising and without ceasing, entering the principle and exhausting \[defilements\] in the vajra samādhi, one is identical with the real limit and equal to the dharmatā, yet has not been able to equal the unequalled."
