> From 'Great King! This prajñā' onward is the fourth \[section\], praising the virtue of prajñā in being able to extinguish the seven calamities. The text has two parts: first, praising prajñā as inconceivable; next, from 'The Buddha told the Great King' onward, the second part explains that since prajñā extinguishes the seven calamities, it encourages people to make offerings to it. In the initial praise of prajñā there are eight phrases: First, explaining that prajñā can serve as the spiritual foundation of all mind-consciousness for all buddhas and bodhisattvas: prajñā is without attainment (aprāptitva); because the buddhas awaken to aprāptitva by means of prajñā, prajñā is the mother of buddhas, and is thus called the foundation of buddhas. The spiritual foundation of the mind-consciousness of all sentient beings is without attainment; through the conditions of delusional discrimination the distinctions of the six destinies (ṣaḍgati) exist, but if one can recognize that delusion is ultimately non-existent, one returns to prajñā; hence it is called the spiritual foundation of the mind-consciousness of all sentient beings. Mind (citta), thought (manas), consciousness (vijñāna), and spirit are one in substance and differ only in name. Another explanation is: the spiritual foundation of mind-consciousness is similar to the tathāgatagarbha, which is the root of saṃsāra. Saying that it is 'the father and mother of all kings': because prajñā can protect the realm, it is compared to their parents. 'It is also called the divine talisman': because it can penetrate the realm of suchness and subdue heavenly māras and non-Buddhists, and because it can guard and preserve all mundane and supramundane roots of goodness, it is compared to a divine talisman. 'The jewel that wards off ghosts': because it can remove the calamities of ghosts and spirits. 'The wish-fulfilling jewel': because through prajñā what is wished for is attained. 'The jewel that protects the state': because the power of prajñā can make the country peaceful and secure. 'The mirror of heaven and earth': because prajñā illuminates the world as non-existent. 'The divine king of dragon jewels': because prajñā can produce all good spirits, it is called the divine king of dragon jewels.
