- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.80](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1708.2.80)

> Explanation: The second \[section\] praises its function. Regarding 'vajra', it intrinsically has two meanings: First, the wisdom capable of severing is named vajra, because it can sever all afflictions; the present sūtra speaks relying on this. Second, the delusions to be severed are named vajra, because their nature is strong and hard to sever, resembling a diamond; therefore the newly translated \*Prajñā\[pāramitā\]\* is named 'Vajracchedikā' (Capable of Severing the Diamond). Alternatively, vajra may also pertain to that which is capable of severing. For this reason, buddhas and bodhisattvas both employ this patience.
