> Question: Does "instantly ceasing" occur in the very same kṣaṇa, or in a different time period? Answer: Since there are many kṣaṇas in a single thought-moment (citta-kṣaṇa), and within a single kṣaṇa there are many arisings and ceasings, forming a single kṣaṇa out of many arisings and ceasings clarifies emptiness right within the entity; therefore they are in the same thought-moment. This is identical to the verse in the \*Avataṃsaka\*: "Just as when a great wind rises, / Stirring and blowing to create momentum, / The two do not know each other; / All phenomena are also like this." Arising and ceasing are instantly empty and do not know each other. Next is the second \[part\], inquiring into the reason.
