> Exposition: 'Those Dharma masters' is a general title; all thirteen stages are called Dharma masters. 'The acquired gotra' is as explained previously. The two assemblies of bhikṣus are far removed from the five wrongful livelihoods; upāsakas and upāsikās are men and women of the five precepts. These four assemblies are as explained in the 'Introductory Chapter'. From here is the second \[part\], distinguishing the dharmas practiced. Within it there are two: first, explaining the cultivation of the ten abidings; second, briefly distinguishing internal from external. Within the first there are also two: first, explaining the ten abidings; second, explaining the cultivation of practices. Within the first there are again two; first, marking the cultivation of the ten abidings.
