> Exposition: Explaining the name of this abiding: the stages of abiding being fulfilled and the wisdom body accomplished, the waters of the Dharma of all buddhas are poured upon their heads; hence it is called the abiding of coronation. As for the rite of coronation, as the Sanskrit text of the Sarvatathāgatatattvasaṃgraha Sūtra upheld by the Tripiṭaka Master says: 'There are five kinds of coronation: namely, the jeweled crown, the seal (mudrā), with water, radiance, and with a name.' When those of the three worthies and ten nobles are about to accomplish correct awakening, in each stage either a buddha or a bodhisattva confers coronation upon them. 'Diligently studying the ten knowledges': as a sūtra says, 'Studying the knowledge of the three times, the knowledge of the Buddha-Dharma, the unobstructed knowledge of the dharmadhātu, the boundless knowledge of the dharmadhātu, the knowledge of filling all worlds, the knowledge of illuminating all worlds, the knowledge of maintaining all worlds, the knowledge of knowing all sentient beings, the knowledge of knowing all dharmas, and the knowledge of knowing boundless buddhas.' The first five knowledges know worlds; in sequence they are the so-called knowledge of moving according to mind, the knowledge of correct awakening's illumination, the knowledge of illuminating the dharmadhātu, the knowledge of sovereignly entering everywhere, and the knowledge of adorning wherever one reaches. The next three knowledges know the minds of sentient beings: the so-called knowledge of knowing all minds, the knowledge of knowing mental objects, and the knowledge of knowing faculties and dispositions. The final two knowledges explain their accomplished virtues: the so-called knowledge of giving teachings according to capacities, and the knowledge of causing all afflictions to cease. These explain the ten knowledges. 'Transform and benefit through supernatural powers': as the verse explaining the ten abidings in the ninth \[scroll\] of the old sūtra says: 'The pure, wondrous dharmakāya / Manifests various forms in response, / Just like a great illusionist, / Whatever is wished is completely manifested. / Sometimes in places for sentient beings / Fulfilling the bodhisattva practice; / Or again manifesting initial birth, / Going forth to practice and study the path; / Or beneath the king of trees, / Spontaneously accomplishing correct awakening; / Or in places for sentient beings, / Manifesting entry into nirvāṇa.' These are all practices of transforming and benefiting through supernatural powers. To conclude in verse: 'Generating aspiration, preparing, practicing, / Noble birth, equipped with expedients, / Upright mind, and non-retreat, / Youthful purity, \[Dharma\] prince, and coronation.' From here is the third, explaining the cultivation of practices.
