> Explanation: Clarifying the entry into the bhūmi: as the Suvarṇaprabhāsa states, "For a fourth-bhūmi bodhisattva, this sign first appears: wind wheels in the four directions completely scatter and disperse various wondrous flowers, spreading over the earth, and the bodhisattva sees them all. As for the Radiance-Igniting Bhūmi, with the fire of wisdom they burn all afflictions, increasing illumination and cultivating the factors of awakening." "Cultivates compliant kṣānti" refers to the lower grade of kṣānti within the third, compliant kṣānti. "Cultivating" means practicing, and "practicing" means advancing. Although the name kṣānti is common, the cognition that realizes ultimate truth and brings about entry into this bhūmi is called compliant kṣānti, because at the initial realization of this principle, the meaning of kṣānti is superior. "Has nothing that is grasped" refers to the suchness that is realized: namely, this suchness has no attachments or dependencies, is not attached to a self, and is not what is apprehended or relied upon by grasping at a self. "Forever cuts off subtle views of self and extremes" refers to the hindrances that are severed: namely, the afflictions of views of self and extremes that are associated with the mental consciousness and severed through cultivation. "Subtle" means that these views of self and extremes are of the lowest grade, are not cognitively apprehended through intentional attention, and follow manifestations from afar; hence they are called subtle. They obstruct the factors of awakening of this bhūmi, and when one enters this bhūmi they are forever severed. The ignorance associated with views constitutes cognitive hindrances, of which there are two kinds. As the Suvarṇaprabhāsa states: first, the ignorance of tasting and delighting in samāpatti, which is what is here associated with craving for meditative concentration, because in pure concentration one gives rise to tasting attachment; second, the ignorance of attachment and delight in subtle, pure phenomena, which is what is here associated with craving for phenomena. "Pure phenomena" refers to the phenomenon of suchness, the factors of awakening, and the twelvefold scriptures. These two ignorances constitute cognitive hindrances and correspond to those two cravings among afflictions. Furthermore, these two ignorances have arisen from beginningless time in conjunction with the views of self and extremes that arise spontaneously in the mental consciousness; now, upon entering this bhūmi, because ignorance is severed, both cravings and both views forever cease to operate. The severing of seeds and severing of active manifestations are to be understood as above. However, how this bhūmi differs from the preceding is that on the first, second, and third bhūmis, practicing generosity, precepts, and cultivation resembles the worldly, whereas now on the fourth bhūmi, having attained the uncontaminated factors of awakening, it is called supramundane. From here, the second \[part\] clarifies the practice while abiding on the bhūmi. In this there are three: first, indicating the practice cultivated.
