> Next is contemplating the world's turbidity of lifespan, turbidity of sentient beings, turbidity of afflictions, turbidity of views, and turbidity of kalpas, giving rise to revulsion and compassion. Seeing the formation and destruction of the receptacle world, one cultivates the perception of impermanence; contemplating one's own internal body as an aggregation and arising of the six elements, designated with nominal natures without firmly grasping them; toward the elderly and venerable in age and virtue, welcoming, respecting, inquiring after, and paying homage to them with the thought of them as parents; toward those who are both similar \[in age\], inquiring, consoling, and conversing with them with the thought of them as brothers; toward those who are both inferior, benevolently and affectionately encouraging their cultivation with the thought of them as sons and daughters; when in an exalted position seeing the lowly, never acting contrary or tyrannical, and even giving material support, gathering them in and according with them; toward those known or unknown, sick or not sick, noble or base, poor or rich, with an equal mind toward all, acting as a companion and friend without enmity or breach; even if they commit offenses, never rebuking or exposing them, not letting them dwell in unease even for a moment; abandoning the fourteen stains, concealing the six directions, distancing oneself from the four evil companions, and gathering the four good friends; dividing wealth equally without scheming for others' possessions; closely examining wealth and goods, buying and selling at fair value, and if the other party does not understand, cheating them not in the least.
