### [1.31](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1715.1.31)

> In the propagation for one's own practice, there are three sections: First, the compiler of the scripture first clarifies that Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, in order to encourage and initiate, comes from the eastern direction to this land. Second, from 'addressed \[the Buddha\], saying' onwards, it directly clarifies the dialogue between Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and the Buddha, whereby the assembly at that time is encouraged to initiate the four kinds of conditions for hearing the scripture, giving rise to the intention of receptive upholding. Third, from 'When this "Chapter on the Encouragement of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra" was spoken' through to the end of the scripture, it broadly clarifies the degree of benefit the assembly at that time obtained upon hearing the Dharma, concluding the meaning of one's own practice.
