法華經義記 1.9

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.9](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1715.1.9)

「蓮華」者，外譬一物必花實俱有，若談蓮家之花則如果家之因，若語花家之蓮則如因家之果，是故此經家要雙明一乘因果似若此花，故借譬受名，故云蓮花。

> Regarding 'lotus flower' (puṇḍarīka): outwardly, it is an analogy for a thing that necessarily has both blossom and fruit together. If one speaks of the blossom of the lotus, it is like the cause of the fruit; if one speaks of the fruit of the lotus blossom, it is like the result of the cause. Therefore, this sūtra fundamentally needs to elucidate both the cause and effect of the One Vehicle as resembling this flower; hence, adopting the analogy, it takes its name, and is called 'lotus flower'.
