> "The Buddha emits a single ray of light": regarding Maitreya, within the second \[part\], the formal raising of questions, there were originally two parts. First, within the formal question, there were originally two parts: the first formal question is the prose section; and as for the verses, the eight verses below are the second, requesting Mañjuśrī to answer. Again, within this request for an answer, there are originally two parts: First, there are three verses that first cite the things seen to formally request an answer. Second, from "The fourfold assembly joyfully looks up" downwards, there are five verses that resolve Mañjuśrī's implicit objections to conclude the request. Furthermore, within each of these two sections, it divides into two. In the formal request for an answer, there are two parts: First, the two verses of "The Buddha emits a single ray of light" first cite the two kinds of auspicious signs seen here and there to serve as the start of the request; the third verse formally requests an answer. Regarding the start of the request for an answer, the first verse generally cites seeing the auspicious signs in this world; the verse below "The supernatural powers of the Buddhas" cites seeing the auspicious signs in other lands. The reason why the first verse cites the radiance is, as explained previously, that among the auspicious signs radiance is the most manifest; therefore, by citing the radiance, the rest can be known. The verse below "The supernatural powers of the Buddhas" cites seeing the auspicious signs in other lands.
