> From "Telling Śāriputra: 'I too am like this'" downwards, there are thirty-four and a half verses of gāthās, which are the second \[part\], versifying the second section in the prose on the application of the parable. Furthermore, in the above application of the parable, it only applied seven parables, not applying the sixth, seventh, and ninth. Although it applied seven parables, it combined the fifth and eighth parables, so the text formed six sections. Now, here it also versifies the application of seven parables, and the text thus forms seven sections; but although the seven names are identical, the intended purport differs. The prose above did not apply the sixth and seventh, and now they are also not versified; above it applied the first, second, third, fourth, and tenth parables, and now it also versifies them. Above it combined the fifth and eighth parables, whereas now it exclusively versifies the eighth parable; above it applied the fifth and did not apply the ninth, whereas here it implicitly versifies the application of the ninth, omitting and not versifying the fifth. Now, within the thirty-four and a half verses, they are also divided into seven sections: the first has four verses versifying the application of the first general parable of the master of the house; the second, from "The Tathāgata has already departed from the burning house of the three realms" downwards, has two verses versifying the application of the second parable of seeing the fire; the third, from "Yet now this place has many perils and distresses" downwards, also has two verses versifying the application of the third parable of being unable to rescue the sons; the fourth, from "Therefore, through skilful means he preaches the three vehicles" downwards, has four verses versifying the application of the fourth parable of being able to rescue the sons; the fifth, from "If you are able to believe and accept these words" downwards, also has four verses versifying the application of the eighth parable of bestowing the great cart; the sixth, from "Obtaining such a vehicle, he causes all the sons" downwards, has three verses implicitly versifying the application of the ninth parable of the sons rejoicing at obtaining the carts; the seventh, from "Telling Śāriputra: 'You people...'" downwards, has fifteen and a half verses versifying the application of the tenth parable of non-falsity. Four verses of gāthās versify the application of the first; two verses of gāthās versify the application of the second; two verses of gāthās versify the application of the third; four verses of gāthās versify the application of the fourth; four verses of gāthās versify the application of the eighth; three verses of gāthās implicitly versify the application of the ninth; fifteen and a half verses of gāthās versify the application of the tenth. In applying the first general parable of the master of the house above, it directly applied only the meaning of the one elder, while within that meaning it also simultaneously applied the other five meanings; now these four verses of gāthās versify and simultaneously apply the five meanings, only omitting and not versifying the application of the one gate. Now the line "I too am like this" first versifies the application to the elder, corresponding to the above statement "The Tathāgata is also like this." The line "Father of the world" versifies the application to "then being the father of all the world." In "All sentient beings are my children," this "all" versifies the application of two meanings: the initial phrase "all sentient beings" versifies the application to the five hundred people; the three lines under "are all my children" versify the application to the thirty sons. The line of verse below "There is no peace in the three realms" versifies the application to the meaning of having a single great mansion. The one verse below "Always having birth and old age" versifies the application to the meaning of there being fire inside the mansion.
