### [6.27](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1715.6.27)

> "Immediately, by skilful means" and the three verses below versify the fourth parable, of summoning the son and obtaining him. In the parable above there were two parts: first, the father summons the son; second, the son accepts the summons. The first two verses versify the first, the father summoning the son; the final verse versifies the son accepting the summons. However, in the father summoning above there were originally four sections; now all of them are versified: one line versifies the first, three lines versify the second, the next three lines versify the third, and the next line versifies the fourth. This single line, "Immediately, by skilful means," versifies seeking persons who can be sent—that is, seeking the teaching of skilful means—where above it said, "At that time, the elder, desiring to induce his son, devised a skilful means." The three lines below, "He further dispatched other men," versify the second, obtaining persons who can be sent—that is, obtaining the teaching of skilful means—where above it said, "he secretly dispatched two men." "One-eyed" is an appearance of not being upright; desiring to explain that the teaching of the two vehicles is not the true and correct teaching, it is therefore called "one-eyed." The teaching of the two vehicles does not fully expound majestic virtue and the auspicious marks, so it says, "without majestic virtue." The three lines below, "You may tell him," precisely versify the third, giving instructions to the messengers—that is, the method of formulating the teaching of skilful means. Above it said, "You may go there and gently tell the poor son," which indicates where to act. This single line, "Double your wage will be given to you," precisely versifies the fourth, the messengers properly following orders to summon the son, properly explaining that the Tathāgata employs skilful means to tentatively adapt to sentient beings, where above it said, "At that time the two messengers immediately sought out the poor son." As for this single verse, "The poor son heard this," it versifies the second, the son accepting the summons. In accepting the summons above there were also four steps; now it does not versify three steps, but only versifies the third step. Above, the first, "having already found him," is the capacity fit to hear; the second, "fully explaining the matters above," is the capacity able to accept; the fourth, "his father saw his son, pitied him, and wondered at it," is not versified. The third step above said, "At that time the poor son first took his wage, and then together with them removed excrement to clean all the rooms." Now it only versifies this. When it says "clean all the rooms," the six sense-dusts are like rooms; being unstained amid these six sense-dusts is therefore called cleaning all the rooms.
