- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [7.98](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1715.7.98)

> From "And spoke in verse, saying" downward is the second \[part\], with eleven and a half lines of verse in all; it is now divided into two sections: first, there are six and a half lines, which first versify the second \[section\] in the prose above that directly explains the substance of the practice; next, there are five lines, which versify in reverse order the first \[section\] above on departing from evil. However, within the second \[section\] of the prose above there were originally two: first, explaining silent listening; later, explaining difficult questions. Now, these six and a half lines should be divided into three sections: First, there are two and a half lines that first explain the method of expounding the Dharma, which is absent in the prose above. Second, from "If there are monks and nuns..." downward, there are two lines, which versify the first \[part\] above, those who silently come to listen. Third, from "If there are difficult questions..." downward, there are two lines, which versify the second \[part\] above, those who ask difficult questions. From "dispelling lazy and indolent thoughts" downward, there are five lines, which versify the first \[section\] above on departing from evil. However, above there were originally three parts; now within these five lines, it does not versify the first and the third, but only versifies the second. Within the second above there were originally six; now it should properly be divided into two: first, there are two and a half lines that first explain departing from the evil of negligence; next, from "clothing and bedding" downward, there are two and a half lines that explain departing from the evil of greed and expectation. From "After my extinction" downward, there are five lines forming the third section, which explains the marks of the ease and comfort of attaining the fruit; it has two parts of its own: the first three lines explain the meaning of departing from danger and suffering; the second, from "The wise person thus..." downward, has two lines that directly explain the marks of the ease and comfort attained.
