> Next, the Kālôpabhoga Devas, which here translates as 'Elephant Footsteps', also have ten places: the first is named Walking on Lotuses: in the past, upholding precepts to perfume the mind, taking the three refuges, and chanting 'Namo Buddhāya'. The sound of their bees surpasses other heavens, how much more so their other karmic rewards! The second is named Delight of Superior Bees: in the past, with faithful mind, upholding precepts, possessing benevolence and compassion to benefit sentient beings, offering flowers, incenses, and music to buddha stupas. The third is named Wonderful Sound: in the past, donating jeweled canopies to the Buddha. The fourth is named Incense Music: in the past, with faithful mind upholding precepts, smearing fragrant ointment on buddha stupas. The fifth is named Wind-Moving: in the past, with faithful mind upholding precepts, donating fans to the saṅgha to provide coolness. The heavenly fragrant wind completely comes to perfume them, all increasing twofold. Even the fragrant wind is like this, how much more so when contemplating fragrant wind—it is attained according to thought. The sixth is named Scattered Flowers Delight: in the past, seeing people who uphold precepts preaching the vinaya, donating water pitchers; or on the roads, filling clean water and donating water pitchers to people. The seventh is named Universal Contemplation: in the past, toward people who uphold precepts, perfuming the mind with goodness, and toward sick people who break precepts, not seeking favors, bestowing peace with a compassionate mind, untiring in heart, making offerings to the sick. The eighth is named Constant Delight: in the past, seeing those who violated the law and were sentenced to death, ransoming their lives with wealth, causing them to attain release. The ninth is named Fragrant Medicine: in the past, toward people who uphold precepts and with faith in the great field of merit of the Three Jewels, donating powdered incense and paste incense, making offerings with a pure mind, having obtained wealth according to the Dharma, rejoicing along after donating. The tenth is named Kuṇḍa: in the past, seeing people who committed an offense against the king, having their hair garlanded and about to be executed, rescuing them to attain release.
