> As for dhyāna of pervasive clarity: the practitioner contemplates the three matters of breath, form, and mind without differentiation. One attentively contemplates the incoming and outgoing breath: entering, there is no accumulation; exiting, there is no dispersal; coming, there is nothing traversed; going, there is no treaded path—like wind in the sky, its nature is non-existent. Breath originally depends on the body, yet the body is originally non-existent: past deluded thoughts invited the present four great elements to enclose empty space, provisionally named "body." The six parts such as the head, the thirty-six elements, and the four subtle atoms are, each and every one, not the body. Contemplating that the body arises from mind, and mind arises from conditions, arising and perishing with swiftness, one perceives no abiding place or characteristic mark. There are only names, and names too are empty. When contemplating breath, form, and mind in this way, one does not find three distinct natures. Since one does not find these three matters, one does not find any phenomena at all. This is the practice of the characteristics.
