> Furthermore, srotāpannas are of three kinds: first, the srotāpanna in the course of practice, which is the candidate; second, one abiding in the fruition, who is the srotāpanna proper; third, the srotāpanna advancing in excellence, also called 'family to family' (kulaṃkula), which is the candidate for sakṛdāgāmin. The sakṛdāgāmin has only two kinds: first, one abiding in the fruition; second, one advancing in excellence. One advancing in excellence is also called 'single seed' (ekabīcika), which is the candidate for anāgāmin. The anāgāmin also has two kinds: first, one abiding in the fruition; second, one advancing in excellence. An anāgāmin advancing in excellence severs the five higher fetters—namely, defilements of the form realm and the formless realm, and so forth—which is the candidate for arhat. The arhat has only one kind, namely, one abiding in the fruition.
