> With respect to the supernormal transformations produced by the concentration of creating transformations through the morally indeterminate, they are evaluated internally as crude or subtle: if for sentient beings of the nine realms one uses expedient supernormal powers to make \[lands\] pure or impure, broad or narrow, these are all termed crude. If for sentient beings of the Buddha-dharma realm one uses real supernormal powers to make \[lands\] pure or impure, broad or narrow, these are all termed subtle. As the sūtra says, he emitted a ray from between his brows illuminating eighteen thousand lands, and three times transformed the lands. Compared to the supernormal powers of other sūtras, how could this be considered great? It is only because it opens up and reveals the Great Matter that it is called subtle.
