> First, the contemplated object: it transcends beyond the four views and four gates of ordinary persons, nor is it the dharmas of the four gates of the two vehicles, nor is it the dharmas of the four gates of the shared teaching. Taking the dharmas of the various four gates as the object is not called the true mark, nor is it birth-and-death and nirvāṇa; the tathāgata-garbha is what is called wondrous existence, possessing real and true dharmas. Such wondrous existence serves as the support for all dharmas, and from this wondrous existence all dharmas are produced; this is the object to be contemplated.
