妙法蓮華經玄義 8.3

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [8.3](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1716.8.3)

「經」一字也，具存胡音，應云「薩達磨分陀利脩多羅」。薩達磨，此翻妙法；分陀利，此翻蓮華，已如上釋；脩多羅，或云脩單蘭，或云脩妬路。彼方楚夏，此土翻譯不同，或言無翻，或言有翻。釋此為五：一、明無翻。二、明有翻。三、和融有無。四、歷法明經。五、觀心明經。

> This is the single character "jīng" (sūtra). Fully preserving the barbarian pronunciation, it should be pronounced \*Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra\*. \*Saddharma\* is translated here as "Wonderful Dharma"; \*puṇḍarīka\* is translated here as "Lotus Blossom," which have already been explained above. \*Sūtra\* is also pronounced \*xiudanlan\* (sūtrānta) or \*xiudulu\* (sūtra). The regional dialects of that land and the translations of this land are not uniform: some say it is untranslatable, while others say it is translatable. Explaining this comprises five \[points\]: 1. Clarifying that it is untranslatable. 2. Clarifying that it is translatable. 3. Harmonizing translatability and untranslatability. 4. Clarifying "sūtra" by applying it to dharmas. 5. Clarifying "sūtra" through the contemplation of mind.
