Taking sarvajñā as the root of the vehicle corresponds, in the present sūtra, to the fruit accomplished at the place of awakening (bodhimaṇḍa), and is likewise not the vehicle's substance. That the causal vehicle is narrow is a vertical meaning; that the fruit vehicle is broad is a horizontal meaning; neither is the vehicle's substance in the present sūtra. The mind corresponding to prajñā, non-attainment, proximate, distant, and so forth, in the present sūtra are all adornments and attendants, not at all the vehicle's substance. Why suddenly raise disputes over the skin, fur, branches, and leaves! With such noisy contention, who could discern it?
