> Third, settling the mind: Having achieved bodily realization and perfected the arousal of the mind, how could one stand by the pond watching fish without weaving a net, or pack provisions and bind one's feet only to sit peacefully without walking? The essentials of cultivation do not go beyond meditation and wisdom. Just as when yin and yang are harmonious and attuned, the ten thousand things flourish and bear fruit, but if rain and drought are unseasonable, how could parched or rotten things live? If two wheels are balanced and even, the vehicle can travel; if two wings are complete, one is fit to soar. Realizing that birth and death is itself nirvāṇa is called meditation; understanding that afflictions are themselves bodhi is called wisdom. Within a single mind, skillfully cultivating meditation and wisdom, one is replete with all practices.
